Bruny Island Excursion

  • Adventure Bay, Bruny island 822 Adventure Bay Rd Adventure Bay, TAS, 7150 Australia (map)

Our Autumn excursion this year takes us to the incredible, Bruny Island.

Bruny has some of Tasmania's most beautifully preserved natural environments with abundant wildlife and stunning cliff top views.

The island is about 50 km long, but does appear to be two islands, with North and South Bruny joined by a narrow strip of land called ‘The Neck’. This isthmus is an important habitat for native wildlife.

One of the many highlights is the South Bruny National Park, with towering cliffs overlooking long sandy beaches and there are many amazing bushwalks to take it all in.

The island is also a haven for many rare and endangered plants and animals.

We can view the ‘Neck’ from the lookout steps and check-out the optical illusion that makes the sea-level appear higher on one side than the other!

We can visit or take a tour of the Cape Bruny Lighthouse, first lit in 1838. Today it’s Australia’s second oldest and longest continually staffed lighthouse.

There will be many photo opportunities to capture the sunrises and sunsets from different locations around the island. Weather permitting, we also hope to capture the clear night-sky from the lighthouse.
